Dr. Dawson to retire April 30

Reno, NV – As Sierra Neurosurgery Group marks its 30th anniversary, we also mark the end of an era. One of our founding fathers, Dr. William N. Dawson Jr., will retire from the practice on April 30, 2010.
Always a doctor first and surgeon second, Dr. Dawson improved the lives of the many patients he touched with his tremendous surgical skill and southern charm.
Drawn to neurosurgery because of its complexity and intricacy, Dr. Dawson continually sought to expand his knowledge and understanding. He specialized in the treatment of tic douloureux and brain tumors and is one of just three northern Nevada surgeons trained to treat brain and spinal tumors with the Cyberknife radiosurgery system.
Recognizing the exceptional man behind the doctor, the Washoe County Medical Society awarded Dr. Dawson the C.H. Woods Award in 2007. The prestigious C.H. Woods Award is awarded annually to a physician who best demonstrates “the art of medicine” and provides a “magic touch” when it comes to patient care.
Dr. Dawson graduated with his medical degree from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine. He completed his surgical internship at Emory University and Grady Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. He served in the United States Army with distinction and completed a tour in Vietnam as a Battalion Surgeon and Combat Engineer. Dr. Dawson received a Bronze Star for his service.
Sierra Neurosurgery Group congratulates Dr. Dawson on a remarkable medical career. We are deeply grateful for your service to this community and our practice. We will miss you greatly.
