Dr. Fleming and Saint Mary's Brain Tumor Center featured in Reno Gazette
Reno, NV – Dr. Fleming, a surgeon with Sierra Neurosurgery Group for over 19 years, has teamed up with Saint Mary's radiation oncologists to put the breakthrough technology of CyberKnife to work serving the needs of the region's brain tumor patients. Saint Mary's Bain Tumor Center puts the expertise of the region's leading brain tumor experts and the region's best technology in one location.
Receiving a diagnosis of a brain tumor can be devastating to both patients and their families and coordinating this complex care can be a significant challenge. The Saints Mary’s Brain Tumor Center combines the facilities and expertise of Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center, the skill and knowledge of Sierra Neurosurgery Group and the technology of Reno CyberKnife.
According to Fleming, "With a brain tumor, starting treatment quickly can sometimes mean the difference between life and death. By meeting with the two key specialists who will administer treatment at the same time, the Brain Tumor Center is able to expedite the patient's treatment signifcantly."
Modeled after some of the premier referral cancer centers in the country, the Saint Mary’s Brain Tumor Center significantly expedites the treatment process. Previously the time between diagnosis and treatment might be as long as six to eight weeks. This can be an eternity when diagnosed with a brain tumor. The collaboration between Saint Mary’s, Sierra Neurosurgery Group, and Reno CyberKnife significantly expedites the treatment process, and patients can often begin treatment as soon as two weeks after diagnosis.
The collaborative approach also recognizes that patients need compassion and support when they are experiencing a diagnosis as difficult as cancer. Patients also have access to numerous patient supports groups to address their emotional and spiritual needs. The Saint Mary’s Brain Tumor Center can also enroll patients in clinical trials when appropriate, giving them access to emerging experimental and potentially break-through treatments.
This spirit of collaboration recognizes that the patient comes first, and we are proud to provide a resource for patients to receive guidance, information and effective treatment on their journey back to health. You can learn more about the Saint Mary's tumor center by clicking here.
