Jan. 20, 2007 – Dr. William Dawson has been recognized as a “Master of the Art of Medicine” by the Washoe County Medical Society. Dr. Dawson, a founding partner of Reno’s Sierra Neurosurgery Group, received the Society’s C.H. Woods Award.
The prestigious C.H. Woods Award is awarded annually by the Washoe County Medical Society to a physician who best demonstrates “the art of medicine” and provides a “magic touch” when it comes to patient care. The award is named for the first president of the Washoe County Medical Society and nominations come from the Society’s member physicians, making it a “Physician’s Choice” award.
Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Dawson has earned the respect and admiration of his fellow physicians and gratitude of thousands of patients. From Memphis, Tennessee, where he received his medical training, to the battlefields of Vietnam to Reno, Nevada, where he co-founded the region’s preeminent neurosurgical practice, Dr. Dawson has continually worked to improve the level of care of those around him.
In 1979, Dr. Dawson partnered with Dr. Joseph Walker to create Sierra Neurosurgery Group in Reno, Nevada. For nearly 30 years, Sierra Neurosurgery Group has provided exceptional neurosurgical care to the residents of Northern Nevada and Northeastern California. It is the region's oldest continuously operating group of neurosurgeons and is one of the largest groups in Nevada specializing in the treatment of brain, spinal and peripheral nerve disorders.
