June 27, 2007 – It started with an idea to provide safe haven and food for pets displaced by the devastating Angora fire in South Lake Tahoe. It grew into a full-fledged, company-wide drive by Sierra Neurosurgery Group to collect food, clothing, cash and more for victims of South Lake Tahoe’s most tragic disaster.
Sierra Neurosurgery Group’s Marcey Grant and Jody Lowrey got the ball rolling Monday, June 25, one day after the Angora fire broke out. The two began organizing an effort through Sierra Neurosurgery Group’s Team Brain Power committee to help care for animals affected by the fire. Jody offered use of her horse corrals and the two put out the call to fellow SNG members to rally behind the effort.
Before they knew it, their Tahoe relief effort had grown into a full-fledged benefit involving a dozen members of the Sierra Neurosurgery Group staff, physicians, patients and other medical groups in the community. Donations of goods and money were collected in the office, trips to Costco were made and a truck from Oak Harbor Freight was donated to transport the goods.
As firefighters continue to fight the fire and families continue to be displaced, Team Brian Power will continue to collect donations and put the power of their team to work for victims of the fire.
Team Brain Power is a rotating committee of Sierra Neurosurgery Group staff members. The goal of the group is to make Sierra Neurosurgery Group the best possible place to work through team building, community involvement, employee recognition programs and celebrations.
