The Washoe County Medical Society is recognizing Dr. Joseph Walker's long time commitment to health in Northern Nevada at its Annual Awards dinner January 26, 2008 at John Ascuaga's Nugget.
Dr. Walker has been a member of the Washoe County Medical Society for 30 years. He will be acknowledged during the Society's Annual Award Dinner and given a commemorative pin. The Washoe County Medical Society serves to educate the public and promote and improve the standards of medical care and ethics in the region.
In 1980, Dr. Walker partnered with Dr. William Dawson to form Sierra Neurosurgery Group in Reno, Nevada, the region's first neurosurgical practice. Since then, Dr. Walker's passion for serving his community has made quality neurosurgical care available throughout Northern Nevada and rural Nevada, in particular. By piloting his own airplane, Dr. Walker provides essential neurosurgical care to residents of Winnemucca and Elko who would otherwise have to travel long distances to see a surgeon.
