Hilari L. Fleming, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Fleming did not take a direct route to become a neurosurgeon. She was doing genetic research after receiving her Ph.D., before deciding to become a physician. During her neurosurgery rotation, she found herself instantly fascinated with the intricate workings of the nervous system and decided on a career in neurosurgery.

Dr. Fleming has been with Sierra Neurosurgery Group since 1991. She is one of just a handful of female neurosurgeons in the West and specializes in the treatment of tumors that impact the brain, particularly pituitary tumors. Dr. Fleming is one of just three neurosurgeons in Northern Nevada trained to treat brain tumors with the non-invasive Cyberknife radiosurgery system. She is also one of the only surgeons in the region experienced with the use of vagal nerve stimulation to treat patients with seizures.

Dr. Fleming graduated with her medical degree from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill where she was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, Medical Honor Society. She received her doctorate degree in Genetics from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia where she was an NIH Predoctoral Fellow.
