Innovation and expertise in spine and brain surgery

Testimonials

Dear Dr. Vacca,

October 10, 2010 is the anniversary of my husband’s (Steven Hon) motorcycle accident. It has been a very long year for Steve and for me. We had a difficult time finding quality rehabilitation units for brain injury patients in Reno. Luckily, someone suggested the Department of Defense Brain Injury Center in Johnstown, PA. Steve transferred there in August of 2010 and in just 6 weeks he is up and walking with minimal assistance. He still struggles with short term memory loss but his long term is fully intact and actually amazing at times...and so far he has exceeded every projection for his recovery.

Day of the accident October 10, 2009                      One year later, walking!

I wanted to take a moment to thank you and your staff for being instrumental in my husband’s life by providing such swift and quality care…. I would love it if you could share our story with other brain injury families. Because of [you] we have a success story! …Thank you so much for allowing me and Steve the opportunity to share our lives together. We think of you often.

Sincerely,

Steve and Lauren Hon

Dr. Jay Morgan was my neurosurgeon after a horrific vehicle accident on Oct 20, 1995. I just wanted to say how appreciative of him I am to this day! He performed a fusion on my cervical spine. He was an amazing surgeon!

Today, I work as an EMT for a local ambulance company in Sacramento, CA. I have been doing this for 8 years. I am also really into running. I ran my first marathon last December and I hope there will be many more in the future. I just ran my second half. If it wasn't for the excellent work and patient care from Dr. Morgan, I would not be where I am today.

If you would please forward this to him and thank him for me, I would be very grateful!

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
Heather Monahan

Since an on-the-job injury in 2002, I had been living with the chronic, debilitating head pain of occipital neuralgia. In several hours, Dr. Jay Morgan changed my life.

For seven years every aspect of my life had been affected by my condition. Every movement I made was guarded. I would avoid innumerable activities, events and crowds for fear of getting bumped. If I was riding in a car and there were speed bumps, I would get out and walk around because I knew if I rode over them the jarring movement would trigger two weeks of head splitting pain. My mother lives on five beautiful, but remote, acres accessible only by a bumpy dirt road. I had not been able to visit my mother’s home in years and relied on her coming over to my house in order to get together.

Immediately upon waking up from my surgery with Dr. Morgan, I was free of the oppressive pain that had been with me for seven years. As I have recovered fully from the surgery, I now find I have improved range of motion and boundless energy. I feel ten years younger.

Thanks to Dr. Morgan's excellent care and surgical skill, I am a new woman.

Sincerely,
Jane Kenoyer

Hi, my name is Robert Cates and I just wanted to drop a note to Dr. John Davis to say thank you for my life.

It has been over twenty years since he saved my life. I had been helicopter transported from Truckee, Ca with a fractured skull and a blood clot in my skull. I am not sure, but I think it's called a "subdural hemotoma". I had been pushed off of a deck on the roof of a two story building and landed on my back on top of a large boulder [about 6 feet diameter and 4 or 5 feet high ] my neck also was injured. I think it was compressed vertebrae, but I may be wrong it has been a long time.

I would not be alive today if not for Dr. Davis and his team and I have never stopped being grateful for my life so I can't say thank you enough.

Doctor Morgan, you're my hero.
You gave me back my quality of life.
I certainly didn't want to have back surgery, but after struggling with chronic pain, then debilitating headaches for years, I needed some relief. You listened to me, really listened, explained the options and helped me draw the conclusion that surgery was my best option.
Now I can wrestle with my kids without thinking about it, I can play 18 holes of golf without spending two days on ice. I feel great.
Thank you.

Dear Dr Fleming,

I want to thank you for not operating on my back! I had been experiencing back pain pretty consistently for years and when my primary care physicians referred me to your office I was apprehensive, worried that I was on the road to back surgery. I was afraid I would have to hang up my boots and give up my true passion, horseback riding.

Instead I met a wonderful clinic assistant, Jody, who instantly put this ranch lady at ease and a remarkable doctor who educated me about my condition clearly and honestly. What a bonus that you are a horsewomen too! I instantly felt that you understood my concerns and would provide me with the options that were best for me. Knowing that I can manage the pain and continue with my lifestyle is such a relief. Thank you, thank you.

Dear Drs. Dawson & Morgan,

Just a short note to than you both for your surgical skills that repaired my lumbar spine almost 2 1/2 years ago. The result has been spectacular such that many of the pleasures of life have returned to me in full. Golf, horses, hiking...everything outdoors that I engage in with my sons and friends.
I am so grateful.

All the best to you,
Terry Friedman

Dear Sierra Neurosurgery,
Thank you for saving my retirement! I woke up from my back surgery with Dr. Morgan and was pain-free for the first time in four years. He is a miracle worker.

I was a nurse in Reno for over 30 years, so I knew I had a lot of options for a back surgeon. After getting a grim diagnosis in the Philippines, where my husband and I have retired, I wanted a second opinion from a trusted doctor with a great reputation. And even though I had to travel around the world to get it, there is no doubt in my mind that I made the right choice with Sierra Neurosurgery and Dr. Morgan.

Thank you for the great care and for giving me back my life.

Dear Dr. Morgan and team;
My name is J. Wilkerson, and on April 4, 2008, I had a L4-5 Lumbar Disectomy performed by Dr. Morgan. I am writing to complement your office on your professionalism, compassion and follow-up that I've received.

I called for a follow-up appointment and your office got me in that same day. That was more than I expected and then I was wowed by the service I received.

Also impressive was the experience that I had with the Nurse Practitioner. Her knowledge, listening skills and recommendations were refreshing and appreciated. I was seen on time, and during the appointment she listened to all my questions, and I did not get the feeling of being rushed.

Thanks you all, keep up the excellent service,

Tina, your fantastic smile and attention to my specific needs have helped greatly in my recovery.

To the staff at SNG, thank you for all you have done. My children thank you for bringing back their daddy, my wife thanks you for bringing back her husband and I thank you for giving me hope to do all the things I want to do.

On August 15, 2006, my son was brought to Washoe Med via Care Flight. He was in a single car, triple roll over accident. His head was fractured in several places and suffered two open wounds clear to the skull.

Dr. David Leppla was the attending neurosurgeon. How wonderful this man is. From the first moment in ICU to the final days of our stay, I was always at ease with Dr. Leppla's care and confidant that he was in command of the situation. He delivered the daily news with hope, compassion and just enough reality to keep us going strong always taking the time to answer the many questions an uncertain parent asks.

Our family is forever grateful for the outstanding care and talent Dr. Leppla brought to our critical situation. As my father said leaving the hospital August 28th, "Thank you for giving us our grandson and son back."

Sincerely,
Melanie Mason
