MATTHEW AGAM, MD
MINIMALLY INVASIVE SPINE SURGEON
Dr. Matthew Agam is the only fellowship-trained endoscopic neurosurgeon in Northern
Nevada. At Sierra Neurosurgery Group, he brings advanced training in minimally invasive spine surgery and complex brain and skull base conditions to Reno and Sparks, NV.
Specializing in fully endoscopic spine surgery, Dr. Agam helps patients suffering from
back, neck, and nerve pain find relief and return to the activities they love.
His Philosophy: Patient-First & Conservative Care
Known for his warmth and clear communication, Dr. Agam believes in treating the person, not just the scan.
- Surgery as a Last Resort: He exhausts all conservative, non-operative options, such as physical therapy and pain management, before recommending surgery.
- Radical Transparency: He uses clear language and visual aids to explain your condition, making sure you feel like a partner in your own care.
- Focus on Quality of Life: Every treatment recommendation is tailored to match your personal values and recovery goals.
Specialized Spine & Brain Treatments
For patients looking for a highly specialized back, spine, or brain surgeon, Dr. Agam brings advanced fellowship training to Northern Nevada.
Endoscopic & Minimally Invasive Spine Care
- Fully-Endoscopic Spine Surgery: Outpatient procedures using an incision smaller than a half-inch. This advanced technique offers minimal pain and a much faster recovery.
- Herniated Discs & Spinal Stenosis: Specialized relief for pinched nerves and narrowing in the neck or back.
- Disc Replacement & Spinal Fusion: Advanced options to stabilize the spine, including motion-preserving artificial disc replacement (arthroplasty).
- Spine Reconstruction: Expert surgical care for spinal deformities and severe trauma.
Brain Surgery & Cranial Care
Brain Tumors: Precision surgery for gliomas, meningiomas, and metastatic brain disease.
- Neurological Conditions: Advanced treatment for trigeminal neuralgia, Chiari malformation, and hydrocephalus.
Elite Education & Advanced Training
Dr. Agam’s lifelong dedication to the study of the brain and spine includes:
- Medical Degree: Keck School of Medicine of USC.
- Neurosurgery Residency: Emory University (Atlanta, GA), among the nation’s busiest and most prestigious surgical training programs.
- Spine Fellowship: An entire year of specialized, enfolded training in complex, robotic-assisted, and ultra-minimally invasive endoscopic spine surgery.
Proudly Serving Northern Nevada
Dr. Agam was drawn to Sierra Neurosurgery Group’s collaborative culture, where a team of specialists reviews complex cases together to ensure patients get the absolute best care.
With family ties to the Reno area, Dr. Agam was excited to return to Northern Nevada, where he looks forward to being part of a close-knit community, not just as a physician, but as a neighbor patients know and trust.
Outside the clinic, you will find him enjoying everything the Sierra region has to offer, from long-distance trekking and road cycling to enjoying Lake Tahoe. He’s an avid reader, a novice furniture builder, and above all, enjoys spending time with his wife, their two young children, and their dog, Laila.
